From the first emergence of fascism in 1920s Italy, Marxists have tried to analyse this specific sociopolitical phenomenon in order to organize to defeat it. What can we learn from Leon Trotky's classic analysis of the distinctiveness of fascism? How do we understand both the continuities and breaks of fascism with the "routine" barbarism of capitalism? What lessons can we learn from the successes and failures of movements to combat fascism? This session will look at these pressing questions as we contend with a growing fascist threat globally.
