This article, "Iran 1917: Long live the revolution! . . . Long live Islam?" by Maryam Poya,  is a great introduction to the uprising that overthrew the Shah of Iran in 1979. It also looks at how it was possible during that revolution for workers to have taken control and produced a very different outcome.
