How to be a socialist in your union
6:00 PM PDT, Monday March 31
Via Zoom
Unions are a way workers can fight to improve their immediate working and living standards and are also a key part of winning victories for the entire working class. Unions in Canada were essential in the vicotory for equal marriage, the fight for abortion rights and the first national maternity leave program. Unions can also be much more democratic than other institutions in our society because they are run by workers themselves to defend workers themselves.
However, often we find union leaderships refusing to fight, or worse lining up with our enemies. Just recently we have seen the auto workers leadership supporting the federal Liberals mere months after the Liberals ordered striking Canada post workers, dock workers and Westjet workers back to work.
Join us to discuss the role of modern unions under capitalism and the divisions that often occur between members of unions and their leadership.
