Barricades are up at GM headquarters: Statement from the Durham Region Labour Council

Comrades,

Members of Unifor Local 222 have erected a barricade at General Motors Canadian Headquarters as their latest effort in an ongoing escalation against the obscene greed of the corporation. As you have no doubt heard by now, there are tens of thousands of union jobs under direct threat in the wake of the plant closure announcement; everything from production workers at GM to members throughout the entire supply chain at feeder plants.

Under the current anti-worker Federal and Provincial governments we have seen an increasing assault on every section of the working class; from teachers, to postal workers, power workers, auto workers, service sector workers, and the most vulnerable impoverished members of society who continue to suffer through decreased funding and increased barriers to access.

We are calling on our affiliates to stand with these workers at the barricades as Durham Region Labour Council continues to link our collective struggles together and build the community solidarity we will all need in the months and years to come.

The blockade is located at 1908 Colonel Sam Drive, Oshawa. There is ample parking and it is taking place around the clock for anyone who can attend. Please distribute this widely throughout your locals and community groups. Bring your families and friends!

In Solidarity,
Durham Region Labour Council
